Robin van Persie has confirmed he sustained a "minor knee injury" likely to keep him out of action for up to three weeks and clarified the injury is not as serious as some reports suggested.
The former Manchester United forward picked up the knock during the Netherlands' 4-0 defeat to France on Thursday, after returning to the team for the first time in two years.
The 34-year-old has endured a number of injuries over recent seasons but, despite some reports suggesting the Netherlands' record goal-scorer face a lengthy spell out, he took to Twitter on Tuesday to confirm this is not the case.
"I would like to make this brief statement with the intention to solely rectify news spread concerning myself," the Fenerbahce striker wrote.
"I regret that any statements about my injury have been made without my consent and approval. At the moment, I have a minor knee injury which has an average recovery time of three weeks.
"This is the conclusion of several knee specialists that come highly recommended, based on the scans, clinical tests and the fact that I could resume the match after the moment the injury happened."
The Dutch earned a vital 3-1 win over a struggling Bulgaria in Group A of their World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday to move up to third on 13 points, a point above Bulgaria and three behind Sweden.
Eyeing a speedy return to training, van Persie added: "I'm looking forward to being back on the training pitch soon."
