Paul Clement was visibly relieved after witnessing his Swansea side win for only the third time in the Premier League this season as they edged past West Brom 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea moved off the bottom of the table thanks to Wilfried Bony's late strike ensured the points would be staying Wales, much to the pleasure of Clement.
"The most important thing today was that we got the result. We really needed those three points and fortunately we were able to get them," Clement said after the game.
"I thought it was a scrappy game, there were a lot of nerves from both teams and it was a game lacking in quality at times.
"I think we deservedly took the lead, it wasn't easy and we had to really fight for it and then we had a nervous moment right after we scored when they got a good cross in and a header over the bar.
"We had a fantastic chance to seal it at the end and I don't think that Tammy [Abraham] realised that Luciano [Narsingh] was up there with him and it could have been a 2-0 win.
"But we'll take that the way we've been playing and the results we've been getting recently."
Both teams looked devoid of confidence in the first half but the game gradually opened up in the second period as the teams went in search of the three points.
Swansea made a trio of attacking changes with Jordan Ayew, Luciano Narsingh and top scorer Tammy Abraham all coming on, and Clement felt that those positive substitutions helped to tip the balance of the game in their favour.
He said: "We showed the spirit to go on and get the victory, the changes that I made - we went with two players up top and two attacking wide players - showed our intent and we got over the line in the end.
"We've had a lot of games where we've been on the wrong end of a one goal deficit and fortunately today it went in our favour.
"It's been tough. In my experience as a manager and as an assistant, I haven't been used to being on the losing side regularly so it's been a reality check for me, but we've stayed true to what we believe in.
"It's only one victory in what we hope will be many more in the future but what we've got to do is kick on from this."
