Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson admitted his side did not play as well as in recent weeks and that luck was on their side in the win over Stoke City

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson hopes his side can build on their last-minute win over Stoke on Saturday.

Mamadou Sakho's 92nd-minute goal earned his side the three points, much to Hodgson and the crowd's pleasure, even if it did not lift Palace off the bottom of the table.

Hodgson believes it could be a moment which could turn his side's season around as they look to get out of the relegation zone.

"It was one of those days where there were more misplaced passes and more misunderstandings than there have been in the last two home games, against West Ham and Everton, but we've gone away from both of those games where we've played well and not won the game," Hodgson said.

"Today is the day fortune smiles on us and we get that last-minute winner and it really is worth its weight in gold that goal as the extra two points lift you that little bit further up the table, that little bit closer to some sort of safety and it gives us something to build on, as we've been bemoaning our fate that we've not had an awful lot of luck in these last four or five games but we can't do that today as luck was definitely with us today."

Crystal Palace 2-1 Stoke

The Palace boss was quick to praise the support of the home fans and says the manner of victory was reward for them, as they stayed and sang until the end.

"I think there's a lot of fight in the team and, in particular, I think there's a lot of fight in the crowd. I think the crowd were quite incredible once again; no one leaves early no one is looking to get away from the ground at 1-1, no one is disappointed that we've not played as well as we've been doing.

"They are all there when Sakho scored that real last-minute winner, the game barely kicked off, and that's reward for them."
