Gary Megson says West Brom are confident ahead of Tottenham clash

Interim West Brom boss Gary Megson is playing down the team's trip to Wembley on Saturday, explaining how it's just another home Premier League game for Tottenham.

Assistant head coach Gary Megson says West Brom are not playing well at present but refutes any suggestion that the squad is lacking in confidence.

Megson took charge of first-team duties earlier this week, following the sacking of Tony Pulis, and takes the Baggies to Wembley for a testing match against Tottenham in his first game.

Pulis left The Hawthorns after a run of 11 games without a win in all competitions, with the owners replacing him with former manager Megson who previously led the club for more than four-and-a-half years through to October 2004.

And the 58-year-old Megson, whose most recent taste of being a manager was over five years ago, told Friday's pre-match press conference: "We've got some good players not playing well at the moment and I've told them that as well.

"But the players aren't low in confidence. They've been really good. Training has been high in tempo and they've seemed to enjoy it.

"It's not a secret. I'm not saying one thing to you and another thing to them. I know they can play better as individuals and as a team.

"If we hadn't have mis-kicked against Stoke, organised a little better against Watford, and hadn't been caught out at the back post against Leicester, we would have six more points and Tony would be here having this conversation."

The club are currently one point and one position above the relegation zone, and Megson does not underestimate the difficulty of taking his team to the national stadium on Saturday.

Gareth McAuley admits West Brom are in a difficult place following the dismissal of Tony Pulis

He added: "Their front three of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are the envy of any football team.

"Kane's quality is that he knows where to be when the ball comes into the box and he's good at bringing other players into the game.

"Spurs were very good in both their games against Real Madrid. They were fantastic, and I think they are the best team to watch at the moment, together with Manchester City.

"But everybody is looking for a performance and a result from us. We've got to go to Spurs and give it a right good go. It's a big game and one that'll be tough."

However, Megson did report that there are no fresh injury concerns ahead of Wembley: "The good news is that we have no further injuries.

"It's still too early for James Morrison and Nacer Chadli, although nobody is coming back this week."
