Rafael Benitez was disappointed his Newcastle side could not grab all three points for their travelling fans against Southampton.
Manolo Gabbiadini's double inspired the hosts as they twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with Benitez's Newcastle on Nissan Super Sunday.
After the game, Benitez says he was disappointed his team could not secure three points for their away support, who made the 300-mile trip to St Mary's for Sunday's fixture.
"We did well but still we conceded two goals so something was wrong," Benitez told Sky Sports.
"We have to keep working hard and keep improving.
"My only disappointment was for the fans because we brought 3,500 fans this distance on a Sunday. It is a pity because we could have got three points and we would have been coming back happier."
Already on a yellow, DeAndre Yedlin could have been shown a second card after his heavy challenge on Nathan Redmond in the 54th minute.
But Benitez feels the American full-back should not have been issued his first yellow for arguing with referee Kevin Friend.
He added: "Maybe he was unfortunate to see a yellow card in the first half then we would not talking about the second one."
