Blackburn have announced the signings of young defensive duo Derrick Williams and Tommie Hoban on the same day Shane Duffy's exit from the club was confirmed.

Duffy's expected departure was confirmed on Friday following the announcement the Republic of Ireland defender had signed a four-year deal at Sky Bet Championship rivals Brighton.

In his absence, Rovers have turned to left-back Williams, on a three-year deal from Bristol City, while centre-half Hoban arrives at Ewood Park on a season-long loan from Watford.

The 22-year-old Hoban helped Watford win promotion two seasons ago and has been handed the number four jersey.

Williams, 23, played a central role when Bristol City won the League One and Johnstone's Paint Trophy double two seasons ago, but despite playing over 100 games for the club had not started a league game this season.
