Dele Alli is confident that new signings will help improve Tottenham

Dele Alli is confident that new signings can help Spurs improve as a team, following Davinson Sanchez's arrival from Ajax.

Sanchez joined Tottenham last week for a club-record £40m and Alli believes that increased competition for places will lead to better performances on the pitch.

"It's a positive step, I think we've got a strong side at the minute anyway so any player that the gaffer and the chairman thinks is going to help the squad can only be a positive," said Alli, following the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

"Competition is always good so I'm sure the players at the back will be working hard to try and keep their places and he'll be coming in and trying to fight for his place.

"If everyone's trying and everyone's playing well it can only be a positive effect on the team."

Spurs are looking to bounce back from their defeat to Chelsea in what was their first Premier League appearance at Wembley.

"It was a good performance from us overall but a few little errors that we need to make sure we cut out," Alli added.

"We hear a lot of talk about it being about Wembley but as players we know it's nothing to do with that. Things just didn't go our way today and we just got to make sure we put things right."

Mauricio Pochettino's side will have the chance to end their Wembley woes when they host Burnley on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
