Bolton Wanderers could be lining up a move for former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista.
The 35-year-old has not played competitively since leaving Orlando City in November last year. His eight-month spell in MLS came to an end because of a clause in his contract which would have triggered a $1m payment.
Baptista is a close acquaintance of Lee Anderson, son of Bolton chairman Ken Anderson, and has been training with the Under-23 side.
Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson has been impressed with his fitness and told The Bolton News: "He came in and has been training with our Under-23s, but that's it at the moment.
"It really has been a great bit of experience for the younger lads to train with a player of that stature and pedigree."
Baptista added to the story by taking a selfie at the Macron Stadium's hotel, teasing the words "coming soon," "get ready," and "big announcement."
Wanderers flew Baptista in on Monday and he was shown around the training ground and stadium, undergoing some light testing with the medical staff.
He has since remained with his representative at the hotel and hopes to speak with club staff on Wednesday morning to try and progress the situation.
