Arsene Wenger says Arsenal must focus on winning their game at Olympiakos, rather than getting caught up in chasing goals

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says his team need to concentrate on producing a quality performance at Olympiakos on Wednesday night rather than panicking about the number of goals required.

The Gunners have their work cut out to snatch second spot in Group F because they need not only to triumph in Greece but also to get among the goals, as a 1-0 or 2-1 victory would not be sufficient.

However, a win by two goals or a one-goal success in which they score three or more (3-2, 4-3, etc) would send Wenger's side through, despite an inconsistent campaign so far.

And Wenger says gung-ho attack may not be the ideal way to get the desired outcome.

"I think it is important we focus on the performance and the goals will come," he said.

"When a goal will come, I don't know. I just think, when we play well, we have a chance to score.

Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey have been included in the Arsenal squad despite sitting out training.

"Ideally you would like not to have to be patient, but we might need to be.

"I think what is important is that, as with basically every game in the Champions League, you attack well and defend well.

"Just go into the game with the desire to win it and knowing you have to do both sides of the game well.

"We play against a side that will be motivated but we face that every week.

"Against a side that is at the moment qualified but they can lose what they have and that can create a fear factor. The best way for us to achieve it is to believe in our quality.

"Mentally, you prepare yourself to adapt to every situation and give the right response to every situation you face.

"We will have to adapt to what is happening on the pitch and to all of the scenarios."

Failure to progress would in all likelihood leave Arsenal facing a Europa League campaign and it could be argued that a lengthy run in that fairly drawn-out event could detract from their pursuit of the Premier League title.

But Wenger is not pre-occupied by such possibilities at the moment.

"What is at stake is we can qualify for the last-16 in Europe," he added.

"We just want to give absolutely everything to qualify tomorrow and, if you want to jump over a hurdle, you do not think what happens if you miss the hurdle, you give absolutely everything to jump over it.

"If you fall down, then you respond, but if you want to have a chance to get across and above, you have to focus."

Arsenal have been hit by injuries in the midfield of late but Wenger has backed the new-look duo of Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey to deliver in Athens.

"Midfield is important in games like this," said the manager. "Flamini and Ramsey will have to play an important part in a game of this stature but I'm confident that they can and will."
