Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says he is proud of his side's season

Mauricio Pochettino has targeted the title for Tottenham next season after securing their highest Premier League finish and a club-record 86 points.

Spurs thrashed Hull 7-1 on the final day but remained seven points behind champions Leicester, with the title-challenge over several games before.

But Pochettino insists his side are closer to the trophy than ever before and urged the club to improve the team in the transfer market in search of a first league title since 1961.

He said: "We are closer than last season and our dream is to win the Premier League - why not? We are second with 86 points and in another season that would be enough to win the Premier League.

"We have set our level higher and now have a good platform to go on next season and try to win the league - winning some trophies, that is the aim.

"We have learnt from last season and have improved in the mental areas. After two consistent seasons we have to fight. We must now move on and try to improve the squad.
