Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be interested and Gimenez told TV Uruguay: "I dream of playing in the Premiership because the matches are very even.

"I would like to go, but if Atletico makes me a contract for life I will stay.

"Atlantic taught me a lot since the day I arrived I am privileged to be in this club.

"The rumours of offers I take with tranquility and I always speak with my representatives."

Inter Milan, Liverpool and United have asked about him in the past.

But Gimenez's cause isn't helped, though, by the fact that Atletico's transfer ban means they can't actually play any new recruits until January.

In the meantime, he has struggled for game time recently and would relish a move.

Boss Diego Simeone values his versatility, having used the 31-year-old as both a midfielder and as a right back.
