Shane Long nets first goal in almost a year for Southampton against Crystal Palace… but one fan tweets embarrassing blunder
The 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international last found the back of the net against Sunderland in February 2017
SHANE LONG netted his first goal in almost a YEAR as he opened the scoring for Southampton against Crystal Palace.
But one fan was left regretting his decision to tweet a bizarre promise.
The 30-year-old striker ends a run of 1320 minutes without a goal in the Premier League, after last finding the back of the net against Sunderland back in February 2017.
Long was made to wait 35 matches before eventually getting back on the score sheet as he starts off the New Year with a bang.
The Republic of Ireland international sent the Saints fans into jubilation when he found the bottom right corner in the 17th minute.
However, one supporter Saints4Ever promised to break wind in his wife's face if Long netted.
He tweeted: "If Shane Long scores I'm farting in the wife's face tonight."
He then said: "No no no ffs."
For the goal, French right-back Jeremy Pied done brilliantly down the right flank, and cut the ball back to the ex-Reading star to fire low past goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.
His team-mates rushed over to him to congratulate his strike as he finally ended his long voodoo in front of goal.
Long has featured regularly under Mauricio Pellegrino at St Mary's this season - appearing 17 times in all competitions.
He was expertly denied by Manchester United shot-stopper David De Gea on Saturday, as the Red Dveils were held to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN Manchester City officially the best team of all 92 Football League clubs in 2017 with a staggering 2.45 points per game… but Sunderland come in dead-last
The former West Brom has never been a prolific goalscorer in the English top-flight, with ten strikes in the 2015/16 campaign the highest he has ever mustered.
But he will be hoping his latest goal will be just one of many in the coming weeks as Southampton face Watford, Brighton and Tottenham this month.
Here are some reactions from fans over the hilarious tweet...
