Arsenal cult hero Mathieu Flamini could return to football with Spanish side Getafe
Former France international has been on trial with the La Liga club
ARSENAL cult hero Mathieu Flamini could make a return to football with Getafe, according to reports in Spain.
The French midfielder has been without a club since Crystal Palace released him in the summer.
But Spanish newspaper Marca report that Flamini has been on trial with the La Liga club in the hope of winning a contract.
The former Gunners star, 33, has been training with the club in the last month trying to impress Jose Bordalas.
Getafe are having a brilliant season having won promotion from the Segunda Division last term.
At the halfway stage of the campaign - with Spanish teams on their winter break - Los Azulones are sitting pretty in eighth.
The club, based just outside of Madrid, have never won a trophy in their short 34 year history although they did reach the Copa Del Rey final in 2007 and 2008.
Their highest was sixth in 2010, the only time they've finished higher than ninth in the top flight.
Club president Angel Torres said: "He has come to train two days because Bordalas wanted to see how he is doing.
"That he has been a good footballer is undoubted, that is why I have authorised him to train.
"If it works, we'll talk and if not, then nothing."
Speaking to SunSport in September, Flamini said: "Every morning, I am still waking up and I am 100 per cent committed to football. But, at the moment, I am waiting for the right opportunity.
"I’ve been fortunate enough to have received many offers from this country and Europe but I want the right project.
"The situation is straight- forward. It is not about just the club but a project, something that can stimulate me.

"To me, the project is more important."
Flamini, who played nearly 250 games for the Gunners in two stints, won two FA Cups with Arsenal and was a key part of the team that reached the Champions League final in 2006.
Flamini also won Serie A with Milan and had a brief, but unsuccessful, spell at Crystal Palace last season.
