West Brom transfer news: Baggies told to pay £22million for Sporting Lisbon star Rodrigo Battaglia

The 26-year-old joined the Portuguese giants last summer for £3.9 million and has scored one goal for the Lisbon based side this season

WEST BROM have reportedly been told to cough up £22 million if they want to sign Sporting Lisbon star Rodrigo Battaglia.

Portuguese news outlet Sport Witness claims the Baggies have already had a £13m bid reject by Sporting.

The Argentine is understood to have a contract with Sporting until 2022 with a termination clause of £52.9m.

However, it is reported that that the Portuguese giants would accept a deal in the region of £22m.

The 26-year-old, who has only one goal to his name this season, only joined Sporting from Braga last summer for £3.9m.

Sport Witness claims Braga would earn a 20% windfall from any potential sale as a sell-on clause was agreed prior to the sale of Battaglia, which is why Sporting are asking West Brom to stump up more cash.

The former Huracan star is a defensive midfielder who has appeared 20 times for Sporting this season.

The speculation is, however, at odds with the noise coming out of the Hawthorns recently.

Richard Garlick told a supporters’ forum a few weeks ago that the club had little room to operate under Financial Fair Play restrictions.

It is thought that Baggies boss Alan Pardew will have to sell before he can buy.

Pardew's men will host Manchester United on Sunday and will hope to pick up their third point of the season.
