Liverpool and Arsenal to go head-to-head in battle to sign Julian Draxler

Germany star struggling for starts at PSG this season and could be available when the transfer window opens in January - with Premier League giants both keen for his services

LIVERPOOL and Arsenal are ready to battle it out for the signature of Germany star Julian Draxler.

The Premier League duo are both tracking the situation of the winger who has found it hard for regular starts at Paris Saint-Germain this season.

And according to reports they could both make bids when the January transfer window for the 24-year-old in an effort to secure the services of the highly-rated star.

Draxler is regarded as one of the best wide players in Europe and has lived up to that billing since swapping Wolfsburg for PSG in January.

But despite impressing in his time in France he has found himself suddenly down the pecking order for boss Unai Emery.

PSG's huge summer spending spree when they signed Neymar and Kylian Mbappe has made it increasingly difficult for Draxler to get a start.

Edinson Cavani is first choice up front, and £196million Neymar is now operating in the position usually favoured by Draxler.

With Mbappe another expensive acquisition, Emery has an embarrassment of riches in his attacking options and it is the Germany star who is missing out.

And his lack of games is also starting to put pressure on Draxler making sure he is part of the German squad at the World Cup next summer.

The chance to move elsewhere could be too tempting to turn down - and there will be no shortage of interest.

The Mirror say PSG are now in the position where they would be willing to let one of the big name players leave to reduce the wage bill at the club.

There is an issue with the French side being able to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, and selling Draxler would help towards that goal.

A fee of around £40million is the value they would place on the wide man, a figure well within reach for both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsene Wenger has made a couple of attempts in the past to take him to the Emirates - and with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil both set to leave next summer he would be an ideal replacement.

In an ideal world Wenger would prefer to wait until the end of the season before bringing in such an expensive player but he may not have that luxury.

Jurgen Klopp is well aware of Draxler's abilities from his performances in the Bundesliga, and has made his interest well known in the past.

And if PSG do decide to make him available when the window opens in the New Year, Klopp would be one of the first in the queue.
