According to the Sunderland Echo, Liverpool would be reluctant to sell Ward who remains third choice behind Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

But a short-term deal in January could be on the cards for Ward, who was brought into the Wales set-up by Coleman.

Sunderland have Jason Steele and Robbin Ruiter but they struggled under former boss Simon Grayson.

And Coleman reportedly wants an extra stopper after Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone left in the summer.
