Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes favourite to take over as new West Brom boss after Tony Pulis sacking

WEST BROM are ready to move ahead of Rangers in the race to land Derek McInnes.

The Baggies are expected to ask Aberdeen for permission to speak with their manager this week.

SunSport understands the Premier League club are keen to talk with a list of candidates before appointing a successor to Tony Pulis.

McInnes’ odds on succeeding Pulis, who was sacked yesterday, were slashed from 33/1 to 3/1 second favourite.

Scotland target Michael O’Neill is the favourite to take over at The Hawthorns and last night went odds-on with one bookie.

However, the Northern Irishman has put any talks with the SFA and West Brom on hold following the death of his mum, Patricia, at the weekend.

McInnes, who captained Albion when they won promotion to the Premier League in 2002, still has considerable support within the club’s boardroom.

Chairman John Williams is a known admirer of the Dons gaffer, who has still not had any approach from Gers to succeed Pedro Caixinha.

But Baggies owner Guochaun Lai is worried about the Scot’s lack of previous Premier League experience.

Nigel Pearson, Ronald Koeman, Slaven Bilic, Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew are also in the frame.

McInnes began the day as a 33/1 outsider but the 46-year-old was the subject of a massive gamble which saw his price collapse within the space of two hours.
