Italy want Paolo Maldini and Carlo Ancelotti reunion as AC Milan legends are lined up for national team gig
Reports claim Italy want Maldini to take up a backroom role but could have trouble convincing him to take it
ITALY reportedly want to hire Paolo Maldini to assist Carlo Ancelotti behind the scenes.
It’s been claimed that the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is the Italian FA’s top choice to replace Giampiero Ventura after they failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
Ancelotti is currently out of work after being sacked by Bayern Munich earlier this season.
But he is believed to be interested in the Italy role after holding talks with national team chiefs this week.
Ancelotti is seen by many as the ideal candidate, having managed a number of Europe’s elite clubs in the past decade.
And it could soon get even better for Italy fans, with Ancelotti’s former AC Milan captain Maldini also wanted to help out.

It’s said the legendary defender could be swayed into a backroom role as a team manager should Ancelotti opt to take over.
But Maldini has previously expressed concerns over the current state of the national team.

And a few old heads may have to role before Maldini and Ancelotti link up once again.
Maldini said on Wednesday: “We need to rebuild our foundations so we can face [the future] without fear, but I still see the same faces in Italian football from when I quit the national team 15 years ago.”
