WATFORD have reportedly turned down an approach from Everton for manager Marco Silva.

The Toffees have made a move to bring the Portuguese coach to Goodison Park as Ronald Koeman's replacement.

However, the Independent claim that the Hornets rejected their advances on Monday.

Everton are also considering Sam Allardyce and Sean Dyche for the vacant role, but wanted to speak with the 40-year-old Vicarage Road chief too.

Silva is believed to be interested in holding talks with the Merseyside club, but Watford a loathe to lose their boss mid-season - especially just 12 matches into his tenure.

Silva has no release clause in his contract, that means Everton would have to offer a large compensation package to try and tempt their Premier league rivals into changing their mind.

After almost keeping Hull City in the top-flight last season, Silva rejected Crystal Palace, West Ham and Porto to sign a two-year deal with the Hertfordshire outfit.

After an impressive start at Watford they have now lost their last three matches to slip down to ninth in the table.

David Unsworth has been placed in caretaker charge of Everton since Koeman was axed last month.

He was believed to be under consideration for the full-time job but a poor run of results looks like it has cost him that opportunity.

His only win in charge came against Watford last time out.

Meanwhile, reports claim that Everton will need to pay Burnley £3.5m to buy Dyche out of his contract.

The Clarets inserted the huge clause in his in order to protect them against the approaches of bigger clubs.

The huge cost is one of the reasons why Everton have so far not made any formal approach for the 46-year-old, even though he is highly thought of.

Burnley currently sit level on points with Liverpool and Arsenal in the top-flight.
