West Ham ‘only gave David Moyes eight-month contract as they wait for former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores to leave Espanyol’
Scot was hired as replacement for Slaven Bilic at London Stadium, but fan pressure saw deal set only until end of season
WEST HAM have only hired David Moyes as a stop-gap until Quique Sanchez Flores becomes available, according to reports in Catalonia.
The former Everton and Manchester United boss replaced Slaven Bilic in the Hammers dug-out following a sub-standard start to the campaign.
Moyes signed a contract only until the end of the season due to in large part to the underwhelming reaction of West Ham fans to the Scot's appointment.
But Sport report another reason is that owners David Sullivan and David Gold are waiting for the potential availability of Flores.
The former Watford boss impressed during his one year in England, establishing the Hornets as a Premier League outfit with a 13th place finish and led them to the FA Cup semi-finals.
Now at Espanyol, Flores could be prepared to leave the Catalan side in the summer, and is determined to on day return to England.
Should they decide to hire him in the summer, West Ham would either have to pay a release clause or hope the Spaniard can find an agreement with his club.
Moyes arrives at the London Stadium is desperate need of rebuilding his reputation.
