Manchester United star Paul Pogba trains with the reserves as he steps up his recovery from injury

The Red Devils midfielder hasn't featured since September 12 after picking a hamstring problem against Basel in the Champions League

PAUL POGBA has reportedly been training with the Manchester United reserves as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old has missed the last 12 matches for the Red Devils since picking up the problem against Basel in the Champions League on September 12.

According to ESPN, the French international took part in a training session on Wednesday with the club's youngsters.

Despite boss Jose Mourinho giving the week off to the majority of star's not involved in international, Pogba remained at Carrington as he looks to force his way back into contention.

SunSport revealed yesterday that the Europa League champions expect to have the £89million man back fit for the derby clash against rivals Manchester City on December 10.

Juan Mata, Chris Smalling, Ander Herrara and Scott McTominay all were notable absentees today, but there was positive news for United fans with two first team members in action.

Marcos Rojo and Michael Carrick returned to training, with the duo featuring just once between them this season.

The former Tottenham midfielder has appeared just once this campaign, last donning a United shirt back in September when they beat Burton Albion 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.

While Rojo has been out since suffering knee ligament damage back in April.

But the trio are vying to be included in the United squad after the international break when Newcastle travel to Old Trafford.

Pogba started off the season in blistering fashion, netting twice in four Premier League games before picking up the injury.

United will be looking to bounce back to victory against the Magpies after losing 1-0 to Chelsea last Sunday.

They trail the Citizens by eight points after 11 games played.
