And the Daily Mail claim Jesus' agent Cristiano Simoes has flown to Manchester to open talks while the 20-year-old is on international duty in France.

Jesus put pen to paper on a £70,000-a-week deal when he agreed to join City in the summer of 2016.

He eventually completed his move from Palmeiras in January.

Disaster struck when he broke a metatarsal early into his City career but he still notched seven goals in 11 games.

And a similar strike rate this term has convinced City chiefs that they need to tie him down long term.

Being only 11 months into his initial contract, Etihad bosses are under no immediate rush to force through a new deal.

Indeed, more pressing are new contracts for the irreplaceable Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho and David Silva.

Manchester City yesterday announced record revenue of £473million for the last financial year.

And chief executive Ferran Soriano thinks this season will in no way be a repeat of last season's trophy-less campaign.

He said: "Last season the team showed exactly the type of quality football we want to be playing.

"We are committed to playing beautiful football and to win. Both elements are compatible and the second is a consequence of the first.

"I am convinced we will see further progress and silverware in the seasons to come."
