Copper cleared of punching Leeds fan after picture emerged of him during Leicester clash
Leicestershire Police rule officer did not hit supporter as he was ejecting him from the ground
A COPPER has been cleared after a picture emerged showing him appearing to punch a Leeds fan.
The snap was taken as a supporter was arrested in the stands during the EFL Cup defeat at Leicester.
In it, the arresting officer had his fist pressed against the fan's face - leading to claims of excessive force.
But after reviewing the footage, chiefs ruled he was grabbing the man by his jacket and not throwing a punch.
Leicestershire Police said: “An investigation into a photograph which was circulated online in relation to the arrest of an away fan at the Leicester city game against Leeds on Tuesday, October 24 has now been completed.
“We are now satisfied that the action taken by the officer in executing the arrest was lawful and did not involve excessive or undue violence.

“Still photographs which appeared on social media sites and in newspapers gave rise to some suggestions that they showed the arresting officer punching the fan in the face.
“Following an examination of all the available footage we are satisfied that whilst the officer took hold of the fan to restrain him, no such violence was used against the man from whom we have received no complaint.”
