And SunSport understands that while no agreement on fresh terms has been struck as yet, the initial negotiations were promising.

Coleman has been linked with the vacant Leicester job following the sacking of Craig Shakespeare this week.

The Foxes have yet to make an approach to the 47-year-old but Wales want Cookie, who is out of contract at the end of next month, to lead them to Euro 2020.

The FAW are aware that there will be interest in their national boss because his stock has increased during almost six years in charge.

Coleman successfully guided Wales to the Euro 2016 semi-finals and, although they missed out on next summer's World Cup in Russia, the Dragons took their qualification hopes to the final game before losing 1-0 to the Republic of Ireland.

Wales have lined up a glamour friendly against France in Paris on November 10 while they are also close to finalising a home friendly against Panama at the Cardiff City Stadium four days later.

Panama, from Central America, qualified for Russia and the first major finals in their history following a controversial goal in their 2-1 win over Costa Rica when Gabriel Torres' header appeared to not cross the goalline.
