Manchester United transfer news: Reading manager Jaap Stam confirms interest in Red Devils striker James Wilson
The 21-year-old looks likely to be heading out the Old Trafford door in the winter transfer window with the Royals keen on bringing him to the Madejski
READING could swoop for Manchester United striker James Wilson in January after manager Jaap Stam confirmed their interest.
The 21-year-old is a non-existent figure at Old Trafford and will target a move away in the winter transfer window to further his career.
And former Red Devils centre-back Stam has revealed the Royals were keen on bringing him to the Madejski in the summer, and could move for him again.
Speaking of Wilson, he said: "I know about it and we already spoke about him in June. But at the moment there is nothing in that.
"I’m not going to name names, but we are looking at players. We’re looking at the team, how we are set up and asking whether we need to do anything and bring in players in certain areas.
"So yes, we are looking at certain players who can improve the team and add extra quality to the squad. But that’s not going to be easy because clubs don’t want to sell their best players in January.
"Even now we are working hard and making contact, but that’s up to me. I’m only saying what I would like to see happen in terms of what we need to do."
Wilson himself admitted recently he would be open to leaving United, he told MUTV: "I don't see why not. Obviously, the summer transfer window has gone and there was a lot of interest.

"But the staff all came to an agreement that I would stay until January to build on what I've already worked for.
"So I think it's certainly a possibility. We'll just have to talk and have a few conversations with the manager and certain people around here.

"I'm not ruling it out but we'll come to an agreement over what needs to be done."
Wilson burst on the scene at the end of 2013/14 season where he netted twice on his United debut in a 3-1 win over Hull City.
A successful loan spell at Brighton in the 2014/15 campaign yielded five goals in 25 matches, but he could only muster four appearances for Derby County the following year as injury cut short his season.
His current contract expires in June 2019, with the option of a further year.
