But highly-rated Allen - who was chief scout at Tottenham and QPR's academy chief - has quit the important post.

The Daily Mail claim he is set to take over as director of football at Loughborough University.

FA head of performance Dave Reddin is planning a reshuffle of the talent identification department, leading to Allen's decision.

Loughborough are reportedly waiting for their man to negotiate a severance package and hope to make an announcement within days.

Last month, England Under-16s head coach and Dele Alli's mentor Dan Micciche was sacked.

And the FA came under fire as former Lionesses' star Eni Aluko accused them of "bordering on blackmail" in an attempt to silence her.

GUILTY Mark Sampson DID make racist remarks to England women's stars

She says FA chief executive Martin Glenn tried to buy her silence as the furore over the Mark Sampson race row erupted.

The Chelsea striker had agreed an £80,000 settlement with the English game's governing body after she accused the then England women's manager Sampson of making a racist joke to her.

The FA had paid the first instalment but withheld making a second £40,000 payment as the row broke out last month, she told a hearing of MPs yesterday.

Glenn responded to questions by denying he had made the offer, and insisted the payment was withheld because Aluko had tweeted criticism of the FA in breach of their agreement.
