Real Madrid endure worst start at Bernabeu this millennium with 1-1 against Tottenham making it three draws and one defeat in seven matches
Not since 1998 have Los Blancos started so poorly at home — and return of 11 goals in worst in past two decades
REAL MADRID are enduring their worst start to a campaign in front of their own fans this millennium.
In seven games at the Bernabeu so far this campaign, they have managed just three wins in all competitions — and lost once.
The 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Tuesday night was their third of the season.
Not since the 1998-99 season have Real Madrid endured such a below par start to the campaign at home.
Back then, when Guus Hiddink was at the helm, they suffered two defeats, three wins and two draws after seven games.
There is an eerie resemblance as Los Blancos were reigning European champions 19 years ago as well.
Real Madrid have scored just 11 goals at home this season — which is their joint-lowest in the past two decades.
Only in 2004-05 (11) and 2006-07 (12) have they managed less than 17 in their first seven home matches.
Ironically, it was Jose Mourinho's side in the 2011-12 side which scored the most home goals in that period with 26.
Unsurprisingly, they went on to win the title.

It is difficult to explain why they have struggled so much at the Bernabeu.
Zinedine Zidane bought well in the summer, and the squad which triumphed domestically and on the continent last year has remained intact.
Their first match of the season was a sensational 3-1 victory over Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the Spanish Super Cup — and they followed it up with a 2-0 win in the return.
However, while the Catalans only dropped their first points of the season this weekend, Real Madrid are still short of any real consistency.

Another damning stat which highlights their difficulties is that Keylor Navas has been forced into making more saves than any other goalkeeper among Europe's elite sides.
The Costa Rican has faced 47 shots, pulling off 39 saves.
No other top goalkeeper has had to face more than 40 shots, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen next in line, keeping out 32 of the 39 efforts he's come up against.
David De Gea has saved 32 out of 37, with Jan Oblak keeping out 29 of 37.
Despite facing fewer shots with 35, Thibaut Courtois has only saved 26.
Again, it is not clear why Navas has been so overworked given Real Madrid's tactical discipline.
He was forced into a number of saves to keep Tottenham — primarily Harry Kane — at bay at the Bernabeu.
