'Toothache?'

Chelsea star Gary Cahill’s bandaged head is the talk of Twitter as centre-back dons bizarre protection against Roma

Veteran defender cut open his chin during thrilling 3-3 Champions League draw at Stamford Bridge tonight

GARY CAHILL is the talk of Chelsea’s astonishing 3-3 draw with Roma after donning one of the most bizarre head bandages ever witnessed in sporting history.

The England international hurt his chin during the Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge, which saw Chelsea surrender a two-goal lead before grabbing a late equaliser through Eden Hazard.

And rather than carrying on as normal, or even applying a plaster to the damaged area, Cahill instead returned to the pitch with a bandage which circled his entire head.

Looking like a bad Halloween costume, the centre-back quickly became the focus of attention on Twitter.

And Cahill will surely have no choice but to take the comments on the chin as he prepares to be ready for Watford’s visit on Saturday.

One witty observed quipped: “Was @GaryJCahill playing with a toothache tonight? #triptothedentist.”

Another mused: “Gary Cahill with that Florence Nightingale swag.”

One final Twitter used added: “Why’s Gary Cahill come as the old lady from Postman Pat?”

But Antonio Conte would surely have fielded his entire side in strange bandages if it had helped them beat Roma.

David Luiz put Chelsea ahead before Hazard doubled the lead shortly before half-time.

However, Aleksandar Kolarov pulled one back for Roma before Edin Dzeko levelled the scores on the night.

And it looked like Chelsea were heading for a shock defeat when the Bosnian put his side ahead with 20 minutes remaining.

But Hazard made sure the spoils were shared when his timely header levelled the scores on the night.

The result ended Chelsea’s run of defeats, but things don’t get any easier when they welcome high-flying Watford to west London this weekend.
