Romelu Lukaku faces calls for ban as Manchester United star appears to stamp on Dejan Lovren

FANS called for Romelu Lukaku to be banned after he appeared to stamp on Dejan Lovren.

The Manchester United striker was caught on camera looking to plant a foot on the Liverpool defender in a frantic first half at Anfield.

One fan tweeted: "Will Lukaku get a three match ban for that? Hemed did for his 'stamp'."

Another said: "Lukaku should have got ten games for that stamp, he could have killed him."

A fellow user said: "Stamp on the back AND a kick into Lovren's face from Lukaku. Retrospective action."

Another viewer called Lukaku's actions a "blatant" stamp and another said he should have received a red card.

One fan wrote: "How is Lukaku still on the pitch? Disgusting stamp on Lovren, hope FA are watching."

But Graeme Souness was not convinced.

He said: "I've got to believe that boy didn't mean that.

"Both his feet got tangled up with Lovren. Lukaku's left foot brushes Lovren and that knocks him off balance.

"I don't think there's any intent there."

It was a first half to forget for the £75million former Everton man.

And fellow Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry agreed. He said: "I don't think there's any malicious intent there."

He did not get his first touch on the ball until the 17th minute and also flew in on Joe Gomez in a challenge that easily could have drawn a yellow card from referee Martin Atkinson.
