MANCHESTER UNITED is ready to make a £50million New Year bid to land Spurs defender Danny Rose.

And England star Rose has been left out of Tottenham’s official 2018 calendar – sparking fears his days at the club are numbered.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has not been able to solve his left back problem with Luke Shaw still making slow progress on his way back from injury. Mourinho has had to use both Ashley Young and Daley Blind in that position.

Now he wants a permanent left-back but also someone who can get forward and play a wing-back role as Rose does for Spurs.

It will be a tough ask to get Rose out of Tottenham as they have their own Champions League and title aspirations.

If Spurs have qualified for the knockout stage in Europe by then there is little chance of United getting him before the summer but if they are out then the door might come ajar.

But United will also be banking on Rose wanting the move away and pushing to make it happen.

And the Old Trafford outfit will have to find a way to persuade Daniel Levy to even consider doing business with them.

The Spurs chairman privately vowed that he would NEVER allow a player to go to United against Tottenham’s will after Sir Alex Ferguson hijacked Dimitar Berbatov’s deadline day deal with Manchester City to land the Bulgarian in 2008.

Levy was still fuming after being forced to sell Michael Carrick two years earlier and his determination to stick with his previous vow was demonstrated in the summer when United tried and failed to land defensive midfielder Eric Dier.

That move fell through and they instead turned to Nemanja Matic from Mourinho’s former club Chelsea.
Rose, 27, has only recently returned to training with Tottenham after suffering a knee ligament injury in an away match at Sunderland last January.

Rose has spent ten years at White Hart Lane after moving there from Leeds in a £1million switch.

He has been a first team regular for the past four seasons and made nearly 150 appearances for the club and earned 12 England caps.

The move will spell the end for 22-year-old Shaw at Old Trafford.

SunSport revealed last season Shaw was keen for a reunion with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino following their spell together at Southampton.

He joined United from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for £30million and was in good form under Louis van Gaal until he suffered a horror leg break against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League back in September 2015.

Shaw returned to action in April of last year and made his first competitive appearance in the win over Leicester City in the Community Shield at the start of last season. He only went on to make 11 Premier League starts and injured his ankle at the end of April.

Shaw returned as a substitute in the second half of United’s 4-1 EFL Cup win over Burton on September 30th but Mourinho made it clear afterwards that the young full-back looked off the pace. He has not figured in any of United’s squads in the three matches since.

Meanwhile, Rose appeared in last year’s calendar but he does not feature in the new one at all, despite being Spurs’ longest-serving star and rated as one of the Premier League’s best defenders.

His team-mates Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Heung-min Son, Victor Wanyama and even newly-capped Three Lions rookie Harry Winks are all included in the calendar, which went on sale this week.

But there is no place for Rose on the front cover or on any of the individual month pages.

The star upset the Tottenham hierarchy when he criticised the club in an exclusive interview with The Sun.

Rose, a transfer target for Chelsea and Manchester City, insisted he would be open to offers from other teams because he wants bigger wages.

Tottenham refused to comment on why the full-back – who has not played this season due to injury - had been omitted from the calendar.

A club insider told The Sun: “Danny is not the only player who doesn’t appear in the calendar – Ben Davies, Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko are not in it either, along with our summer signings.

“People will say it doesn’t look good for Danny but the fact he has not played this season means there are no images of him in our new Nike kit that could be used in the calendar.

“I am sure, that after he returns to action, he will be in the 2019 calendar .”

Rose, who has been sidelined with a knee problem since January, returned to training this week, along with fellow long-term absentee Lamela.

But the pair, despite suffering no ill effects, will not be available for Tottenham’s Premier League clash at home to Bournemouth at Wembley Saturday.
