PHIL FODEN is having a ball in India - and picking up the plaudits, too.

The Manchester City kid was so impressive in England's 4-0 thrashing of Chile in their U17 World Cup opener .

Indeed, good enough for Glenn Hoddle to lavish him with particular praise.

The former England boss tweeted:  "Just watched the under 17s beat Chile, very impressive set of players.

"Foden looked more South American than they did! Great start."

Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho scored twice with Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi and Angel Gomes (Manchester United) also netting.

Playmaker Foden has also been praised by City boss Pep Guardiola as one of the club's brightest young talents, although he is yet to make his senior debut.

England younger age teams enjoyed a great summer, winning the Under-20 World Cup and reaching the Euro Under-21 semi-finals - and now it the Under-17's turn.

They enjoyed a massive 70 per cent of possession and next face Mexico on Wednesday before finishing the pool stage against Iraq next Saturday.

Having been in India for almost a fortnight, Foden is loving every minute.

“It’s a lot different to England, the people are so friendly, even when we’re driving past on the coach or leaving the hotel, they’re saying hi,”he said.

“It’s the World Cup and when you see the stadiums and the way it’s being set up, it’s a big thing.
