Aston Villa transfer news: Steve Bruce eyes up Cologne striker Jhon Cordoba to bolster the Villans attack
ASTON VILLA are checking out Jhon Cordoba - the Colombian who shocked Arsenal.
Steve Bruce is in the market for a striker and his spies are looking at Cologne hitman Cordoba, who stunned the Gunners with a blinding goal in the Europa League.
Cordoba, 24, has already played in Spain and Germany but launched himself into the consciousness of English clubs with his long-range strike against Arsenal.
Bruce is looking for one more forward and thinks he will get the cash from owner Tony Xia to buy one after the upturn in Villa’s results.
Villa have moved out Ross McCormack to make a place in their squad and payroll.
Cordoba is on the shortlist to fill that spot.
And the former Granada ace - who has banged in six goals in 17 Colombian U-20 appearances - could be the man to replace the Scotsman.
He only moved to Cologne from Mainz in the summer on a four-year deal - reported to be in the region of £13million.
However he has failed to impress since his big money move, netting just twice in ten games in all competitions.
He is yet to make his mark in the Bundesliga this campaign, and boss Peter Stoger could be tempted to offload him in January.
