The Swiss international who cost £35million from Borussia Monchengladbach claims the money shelled out by other Premier League sides has left him speechless.

The 25-year-old who has not convinced since his switch from the Bundesliga in 2015 is adamant the North Londoners will soon eat up the gap on the leaders.

Xhaka said: "We are into our stride, and we have the top of the table back in our sights.

"I am happy with things. I am a regular for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and I want to progress still further.

"Getting straight back into the Champions League next season will be very important for us.

"But our opponents are paying record amounts for players.

"It soon won't be possible to buy a class player for under £100m.

“In two or three years' time the absolutely top players will probably go for £400-500m."
