Everton will NOT pursue deal for Arsenal star Olivier Giroud in January and will go for other targets
French striker was summer Toffees target but his decision to stay at Arsenal has cost Everton who are desperate for a recognised forward to replace Romelu Lukaku
EVERTON will not reignite any interest Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
The French international’s future looked uncertain following the summer arrival of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.
A move North to Goodison Park was on the cards as Toffees boss Ronald Koeman looked to replace Romelu Lukaku.
But the switch failed to materialise with Koeman set to chase other targets to beef up his attack in January, according to the Daily Star.
The 30-year-old was also linked with a move back to France with Marseille but decided to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates.
Giroud bagged his 100th goal for the Gunners in the 4-2 Europa League win against BATE Borisov last Thursday.
But was back on the bench for the home win against Brighton on Sunday.
Koeman, who spent over £130million in the summer is paying the price for not signing as proven goalscorer.
Latest Everton news
Everton are in the bottom five after losing at home to Burnley on 1-0 on Sunday and have scored just four league goals.
The pressure is mounting on the Dutch coach who may not even last until January to oversee any transfer window additions at Goodison Park.
Wayne Rooney on his return to Merseyside has scored two league strikes and forgotten man Oumar Niasse also hit two against Bournemouth.
Spanish striker Sandro Ramirez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are yet to score and the lack of gaols is putting huge pressure on the defence to keep clean sheets.
All four featured against Burnley and none of them looked like breaching the visitors defence, which will be a huge concern for under-fire Koeman going into the international break.
