Harry Kane wants England captaincy as he admits to being ‘one of the leaders in the team’
HARRY KANE wants the England armband — so he can lead our World Cup charge next summer.
The Tottenham striker is tipped to be the next long-term skipper after Wayne Rooney quit Three Lions football.
Kane, 24, was captain against Scotland and France earlier this year.
And when asked if he is ready for it again, he insisted: “Yes. I’ve had had the armband and it was a very proud moment.”
Kane, who scored 13 goals for club and country in September, is set to join up with Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley.
England are unbeaten at the top of Group F and will clinch their place at next summer’s finals in Russia with victory over Slovenia — or against Lithuania in Vilnius on Sunday.
Kane added: “I feel like one of the leaders in the team.
“But Gareth Southgate has said he is going to take his time and we do have plenty of leaders.

“My focus has to be on scoring goals and continuing this form into October. That’s the most important thing, do your talking on the pitch.”
Southgate has yet to appoint a permanent captain but the role is up for grabs.
Keeper Joe Hart, centre-back Gary Cahill and midfielder Jordan Henderson have all led the side recently.
Yet none are sure of a place in the side while Kane is an automatic starter — even if he is not taking anything for granted.
The striker added: “Whoever Gareth picks as captain, the team will get behind him.
“We have still not qualified and we have to win the game on Thursday — and that makes it easier on Sunday.”
