His latest cut comes just days after Everton beat Bournemouth 2-1 last weekend, where he was on the end of a Simon Francis elbow to the eye.

Rooney managed to carry on for the remainder of the first half, though he was visibly in pain whilst on touchline.

It wasn't all bad for the former Manchester United star in the opening period.

He capitalised on a horror back pass from Hector Yuste to tap home into an empty net for Ronald Koeman's side.

His 21st minute strike got Everton back on level terms after Adrian Sardinero put the Cypriot club in front in the 13th minute.

Ashley Williams was at fault for giving the ball away, leading Antonio Jakolis to whip the ball in for Adrian to net from five yards out.

Rooney has been a key figure for Koeman since re-joining from the Red Devils in the summer.

His goal tonight was his third goal this season, after strikes against Stoke and Manchester City in the Premier League.
