Chelsea loan army suffer cup humiliation hours before Carabao Cup clash as Vitesse are defeated by amateurs
A NUMBER of Chelsea stars were humiliated on Wednesday - before the Blues had even kicked-off their Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
Fankaty Dabo, Matt Miazga, Mason Mount and Charlie Colkett were all part of the huge loan army sent out by the Premier League champions in the summer.
The foursome joined the Blues' feeder club Vitesse Arnhem in Holland in order to help with their development.
However, they learned a harsh lesson in the KNVB Cup when all three started in one of Vitesse's most embarrassing defeats in their history.
The holders' defence of their crown ended in disaster as they were defeated by fifth-tier amateurs AVV Swift on penalties.
The Amsterdam-based minnows used their artificial pitch to their advantage as they held the Eredivisie side to a goalless draw.
And they mustered enough strength to convert all of their spot-kicks to advance 5-3 in the shoot-out.
Chelsea will be hoping for better luck when they kick-off their Carabao Cup campaign tonight.
