Wayne Rooney ordered to clean up his act by fuming Everton manager Ronald Koeman after drink-driving arrest
Ex-Manchester United striker is facing £320,000 fine after a night in the cells for drink-driving charge
WAYNE ROONEY has been given an hour-long dressing down by furious Ronald Koeman.
The angry Everton boss told the club’s highest-paid star to clean up his act and ensure there is no repeat of the behaviour that led to last week’s drink-driving charge.
Rooney, 31, has a fine of two weeks’ wages, worth £320,000, hanging over him.
That will only be handed out by the club should he be found guilty in court.
But Rooney still left after meeting with Koeman at 2pm with his ears ringing.
The hard-line Goodison chief is understood to have made it clear to Rooney he was very upset with him.
Koeman believed having given Rooney time off over the international break he would just relax.
But while pregnant wife Coleen headed off on holiday, Rooney went on a ten-hour drinking binge.
He was arrested as he drove Laura Simpson home at 2am on Saturday after they had met in a bar.
Outcast Ross Barkley has been included in Everton’s Europa League squad.
The midfielder, 23, who snubbed a £35million deadline-day move to Chelsea, is currently KO’d with a hamstring tear.
Joey Barton claimed the moved was killed by Blues boss Antonio Conte who switched his phone off.
The ex-Man City and Newcastle man said: “I heard a really interesting thing about what happened with the Ross Barkley transfer.
“Conte turned his phone off and Barkley’s representatives were trying to contact him.
“He wanted to say ‘look, where am I going to play’, and Conte turned his phone off.
“That is why Barkley got cold feet and never signed.
“He thought, ‘well, if the manager isn’t answering the phone to me he clearly doesn’t want me’, and that is why he went back to Everton.”
