The Nou Camp club have been desperate to bring in Coutinho since flogging his fellow countryman Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record £198m move.

Coutinho has handed in a transfer request and not played for Jurgen Klopp's side this season due to a "back injury".

However, he has been declared fit for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia.

Yahoo Sport claim it was while on international duty that Coutinho was told that Reds owners Fenway Sports Group had finally accepted Barcelona's offer.

They had previously failed with a £118m move for the forward.

But now it appears the saga has finally come to an end and that he could be unveiled as a Barca star as early as Friday.

Coutinho will no doubt hope his parade goes slightly better than that of £138m signing Ousmane Dembele.

The former Dortmund man failed completely with his keepy-up attempts in front of 18,000 fans.

And the club originally failed to sell any shirts of former Spurs flop Paulinho after his £36m capture.

Coutinho's arrival would be some welcome good news for Ernesto Valverde's side.

Weakened by the departure of Neymar, they have an ageing squad compared to eternal rivals Real Madrid - who currently hold the La Liga and Champions League crowns.

And even club icons such as Andres Iniesta have openly admitted they are for the first time considering their future.
