Spain striker is being lined up by the La Liga club while he waits to re-join Atletico Madrid

DIEGO COSTA could spend the next four months in sunshine exile on Gran Canaria under a new proposal to end his Chelsea stand-off.

Las Palmas are being lined up to take the rogue striker on loan while he waits to join his former club Atletico Madrid in a permanent deal in January.

Chelsea want rid of Costa after his text row with boss Antonio Conte.

They have signed Alvaro Morata as his replacement from Real Madrid in a deal worth £65million.

And the Blues are also chasing Swansea’s £15m-rated Fernando Llorente.

Spain striker Costa, 28, refuses to return to England and is being fined £300,000 every fortnight of his absence.

Chelsea and Atletico are hopeful a deal can be done to allow the Brazil-born striker to return to Madrid, although the fee is still a big issue.

The Premier League champions want £50m for a striker who cost them £32m three years ago.

So far Atletico have offered £25m but a compromise could see the eventual fee hit £40m.

The La Liga outfit are currently serving a transfer ban which prevents them signing anyone until New Year’s Day.

Fiery hitman Costa hit 20 goals last season as the Blues won the title.

Chelsea insiders say there is little chance he will join Everton on loan or any top-flight club as he wants a move to Spain.

Las Palmas have taken Atletico winger Vitolo on loan in a deal similar to the one being proposed for Costa.
