He was thought to be targeting a comeback in October, but he will not be rushed back into the United first-team.

Mourinho said: "We expect Zlatan to come back in January. He'll be fit to play in January."

Fomrer Paris Saint-Germain and Milan striker Ibrahimovic, who will be 36 on October 3, believes his return will give United even more variety in attack.

Everton frontman Romelu Lukaku signed in the summer for £75million while Marcus Rashford and Henrikj Mkhitaryan are also flying.

Ibrahimovic said: “Signing Lukaku makes us even stronger because he has different qualities from me and from Rashford.

"He is a powerful guy and he brings extra qualities in a game.”

Ibra also feels sure United are far stronger than last season - leaving him scenting a fifth league title in five different countries.

Mourinho's men finished only sixth last tern despite his 17 goals.

But United are the only Premier League team with three wins from their first three games this season.

Saturday's 2-0 defeat of Leicester left United with 10 goals scored and none conceded.

Huddersfield and Manchester City are both two points adrift.

But West Brom will join United on nine points from three games if they beat Stoke at home on Sunday afternoon.
