Hoffenheim star throws down Champions League gauntlet to Liverpool and claims ‘we play better football’
Kerem Demirbay insists he and his team-mates will not be daunted as they aim to make history and become first German side to ever win at Anfield
HOFFENHEIM star Kerem Demirbay has flung the Champions League gauntlet down at Liverpool - boasting: “We play better football than you.”
The Germany international also insisted his Euro rookies can overturn the Reds' first-leg lead - and maintained they will not be fazed by the Anfield atmosphere.
Jurgen Klopp's men seized control of the tie in Germany last week, with Trent Alexander-Arnold's superb free kick and a Havard Nordtveit own goal putting them in charge before a late Mark Uth consolation.
But midfielder Demirbay claimed Hoffenheim have what it takes to spring a surprise tomorrow night.
The 24-year-old crowed: “We definitely play better football than Liverpool. We will see in the end whether that will be enough to see us through.
“I have to be honest and say that Liverpool are a good team - but we are good as well.
“We are not Liverpool, but we can fly there full of confidence and play our game with the handbrake off.
“We are good enough to stand up to Liverpool the way we did at home - and to score at least two goals.

“The atmosphere at Anfield can drive us on, as none of us have experienced anything like it.
“It definitely doesn't frighten me - in fact quite the opposite.
“To my mind atmospheres like that are terrific. They give you wings for sure.
“No German team has yet won at Anfield, but there is always a first time. We want to win the game.
“And there is an added incentive to make history with a victory. This is a great time for us to write our names into the history books.”
