STEPHEN WARD will reportedly stay at Turf Moor for at least two more years.

With his existing contract due to expire at the end of the season, Burnley acted to secure their star left back until June 2019 with an option of an additional 12 months.

Ward discussed his new contract on Burnley's website saying "I'm delighted to have signed.

It's just great to be part of a club like this at the minute and hopefully we can have another successful season."

After one match so far this season, the Clarets are already showing they can be a force in the top-tier with Ward in the line up.

He was at hand to deliver a stunning left foot drive to put Burnley 2-0 up against Premier League giants Chelsea.

His second ever Premier League goal for Burnley was sandwiched by two from Sam Vokes as the Clarets went on to open their season with a 3-2 win.

The 31-year-old initially signed at Turf Moor in August 2014 on a three year deal and has since made 76 appearances for the club.

Although, much of his first season and part of his second was hampered by injury.

But his presence was felt on the pitch as his return half-way through the 2015-16 season coincided with the Clarets unbeaten streak to end the season as the Championship winners and earn promotion straight back to the Premier League.

Last season he was one of Burnley's most consistent players with 37 league appearances and one goal to prolong their stay in the top flight.
