Manchester United transfer news: Flop Guillermo Varela rejoins Uruguayan club Penarol after unsuccessful Old Trafford stint
MANCHESTER UNITED flop Guillermo Varela has left Old Trafford to rejoin Uruguayan side Penarol.
The right-back, 24, has played just four times in four years at Old Trafford and injury limited him to just seven games on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt last season.
SunSport reported earlier this month that the defender was on his way out of Old Trafford.

The Uruguay Under-20 international has now reunited with his childhood club on a believed three-year contract.
A “source close to the player” claimed a fortnight ago: “Guillermo decided to play in Penarol for personal tranquillity.”
United chief Jose Mourinho has been revamping his squad this summer and seems likely to rebuild his defence around Eric Bailly.
Varela is one of the lesser-known casualties as United hope to transform last season’s sixth-finish into a true title challenge.
He joined the Red Devils back in 2013 after impressing on a two-week trial.
The right-back shot to prominence while playing at the South American Youth Championship that year.
LATEST MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS
In June that year United announced his arrival on a five-year contract as he became the first player to arrive at the club under the helm of David Moyes.
But just a year later he was shipped out on loan to Real Madrid Castilla - the La Liga giants' reserve side.
However, he was included in the Champions League squad for the first-team, although he did not feature, and ended the campaign with 33 appearances.
Varela then returned to United before being sent out for another loan stint last summer.
He joined Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt and appeared to have earned himself a deal in Germany before disaster struck.
Frankfurt boss Niko Kovac revealed at the end of last season that he was due to play in the DFB Pokal Final but Varela had defied club instructions and got a tattoo.
It became inflamed, forcing him out of action, and leading to him being suspended.
