NO GYLFI SWANSONG

Paul Clement takes not-so-subtle swipe at wantaway Everton target Gylfi Sigurdsson as his Swansea side thrash Sampdoria 4-0

The 27-year-old Icelandic midfielder is keen on a move to Premier League rivals Everton, but the Swans are holding out for £50m

PAUL CLEMENT has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at Everton target Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Iceland star is wanted by Swansea's Premier League rivals, but the Welsh club are demanding £50million for their star midfielder.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is yet to increase his offer past £40m.

Asked for an update on the deal, head coach Clement took a parting shot at the 27-year-old.

He said: “I'm committed to the players that want to be here, want to work and that want to improve.”

Sigurdsson sat out his current team's 4-0 pre-season win over Sampdoria on Saturday and remains keen to force through a move to Goodison Park.

But with Swansea's American owners digging their heels in over the club's prized asset, the deal for Sigurdsson has ground to a halt for now.

Clement saw his Swansea team brush Sampdoria aside at the Liberty Stadium a week before they open their league campaign at Southampton.

Leroy Fer's header made it 1-0 at the break, before a comical Ricardo Alvarez own goal and strikes from Tammy Abraham and Federico Fernandez completed the scoring.

Clement added: “I'm really happy with the way things have gone in pre-season with the players. Sampdoria only got beat narrowly by Manchester United.

“I know they made changes and the second goal was the sort of gift you don't normally expect.

“But we looked dangerous on the counter attack in the second half and scored from two set plays.

“We had more control of the game in the second half and there are still a couple of things to work on, but I'm confident that by next Saturday we'll be ready.”
