Walker, who left Tottenham for City in a £50million move this month, tweeted pictures of himself in action against his old club.

He captioned the snaps: "Really enjoyed the tour with @ManCity!

"It was really strange to play against the boys last night but great to see everyone at @spursofficial again!"

While the England international was happy to face his old side, his former supporters were left in a fury.

Walker, 27, was barraged by abuse, with several users calling him a "snake".

Other fans suggested he had only left Spurs for a bigger pay package.

Walker joined City in a world-record fee for a defender.

The England international claimed the reason he left Spurs, who finished runners up in the Premier League last season, was to win silverware.

He said: “It feels a bit surreal. I have been at Tottenham for so many years, but I’m excited about beginning a new chapter in my career. I can’t wait to get started. I’m thrilled to be signing for City.

"With the size of the club, we need to go on and pick up silverware, get trophies left, right and centre, and hopefully that can add to my CV because I haven’t won that many things so far in my career.

"Tottenham was a great club, it helped me to get me to where I am now. I’ve learned a lot, especially under Mauricio Pochettino, he’s been fantastic with me.

"But sometimes your path isn’t there and you have to move on and what a place to come and take a different path. Just win trophies - that’s all I’m about and all I want to do.”
