NO SILVA LINING

Arsenal re-sign Wellington Silva from Fluminense to sell on for profit…only for winger to fail medical at Bordeaux

The 24-year-old is now reportedly on his way back to the Brazilian club after the Ligue 1 club decided against signing him

ARSENAL's gamble of re-signing Wellington Silva and selling him for a profit has backfired after the winger failed a medical at Bordeaux.

The North Londoners bought back the 24-year-old for £1.5million from Fluminense, with the Ligue 1 club willing to acquire his services for £3m - with Arsenal on course to make a quick and tidy profit.

Pedro Abad - the club president of the Brazilian side said recently: "When we brought him in last year, there was a clause that allowed Arsenal to buy him back for a fixed amount.

''Another club (Bordeaux, France) made a proposal that beats that value and Arsenal already said they will exercise this clause. So he should leave."

However according to GFFN, Jocelyn Gourvennec's side have pulled out at the 11th hour after Silva's medical did not satisfy the club.

The report states that the club had scheduled a 3pm press conference to unveil their new man, which has subsequently been cancelled.

Bordeaux then tweeted on their official account: "Following the medical examination, the club decided not to implement the transfer of Wellington SILVA."

He is now believed to be on his way back to sign for Fluminense according to Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte.

Silva signed for Arsenal in January 2010 from Fluminense, but failed to make a single first team appearance after being repeatedly shipped off on loan.

The Brazilian youth international failed to obtain a work permit before 2015, enduring spells in Spain with Levante, Alcoyana, Ponferradina, Murcia and Almeria.

His first taste of English football came in the 2015/16 season when he spent the campaign with Bolton Wanderes in the Sky Bet Championship.

He impressed with the Trotters - scoring twice in 25 appearances in the competitions, but couldn't help his side avoid relegation to the Football League One.

Silva has since rebuilt his career in his native country, being selected in the Campeonato Carioca's (State of Rio de Janeiro) Team of the Year.

In 40 games since his return, he has banged in eight goals.
