However, he has pledged his future to Eddie Howe at the Vitality.

Smith joined the Cherries on a permanent basis in January 2014 and has since gone on to make 113 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring three goals.

The defender, who made just one appearance for Spurs during a six-year career which was mostly spent on loan at a number of clubs, told Bournemouth's official website: "I'm delighted.

"I’m settled in the area and get along really well with the lads.

"There is nowhere else I want to be at this moment. Everything is going well for me both on and off the pitch and I’m looking forward to that continuing."

Manager Eddie Howe said: "When we first brought Adam to the club we believed he had huge potential.

"Adam has taken his opportunity, improved as a player and is an important member of our squad.

"We're delighted he will stay with us and hopefully continue his progression further."

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake commented: "Adam is another one of our players that has played a key role in the club’s recent journey and we’re delighted he’s extended his stay with us.

"He’s an infectious character and a big part of what we’re trying to do and build at this football club."
