He was accused of defrauding Spanish authorities, with allegations of tax fraud being filed against him for not paying £13million in four separate acts between 2011-2014.

Ronaldo was believed to be left angry and upset after Los Blancos failed to protect him after being charged.

But any talk that he was set to depart the reigning Champions League winners were quashed when Portugal's all-time record goalscorer spoke to Marca.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper, he said: "Winning major trophies with my club last year was great, just like the individual trophies.

"Doing it again would be fine.

"You have to work hard, year after year, I will continue to do it. Football is my life, it is my passion."

Club president Florentino Perez continuously denied reports he was poised to leave the Bernabeu Stadium, instead flogging deadwood in the squad.

Right-back Danilo was recently shipped off to Manchester City for £26.5million, while striker Alvaro Morata swapped Spain for Stamford Bridge as Chelsea signed him for a club-record fee of £65m.

James Rodriguez has been flogged off to Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy him permanently in 2019.

While Madrid have also sold forward Mariano to Lyon, winger Burgui to Alaves and centre-back Diego Llorente to Real Sociedad.

Ronaldo will be joined at the club by defender Theo Hernandez and midfielder Dani Ceballos, brought in from Atletico Madrid and Real Betis respectfully.

He could be part of a new forward front-line with Zinedine Zidane desperate to sign Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe, while he is willing to sell Karim Benzema.
