David de Gea set to line up against Real Madrid in Los Angeles, and he is still longing for a move to the Bernabeu
Manchester United team-mates believe he could yet leave next month in a £60million move
FOR David De Gea it will be very much a case of what might have been — and what could still be — when he lines up against Real Madrid.
But for an unreliable fax machine, the Manchester United star would be playing against the Red Devils in the International Champions Cup clash in California.
De Gea, 26, wanted the move and United accepted his wishes to return to the place where he made his name with Atletico, and where his TV star girlfriend Edurne lives.
It is still something De Gea pines for and his team-mates believe he could yet leave next month in a £60million move.
But with De Gea having signed a five-year deal later in 2015, United are fine with the situation, especially as they have experienced Sergio Romero as back-up.
De Gea is not agitating for a move but the question is how he will feel if another summer passes without his Bernabeu dream coming true.
He has won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Europa League during six years at United and is regarded as one of the world’s best.
Club and country team-mate Ander Herrera underlined his worth when he said: “He is a keeper who can give you points and, for me, he is the best. So I want to keep him here.”

De Gea loves United in the same way Cristiano Ronaldo did but, like the Portuguese, he might just love the prospect of playing for Los Blancos more.
